The Faithful House Program: Affirming Life, Avoiding Risk. Facilitator Training Workshop | ||
“Preventing HIV and Empowering Families through Strong and Faithful Marriages” Did you know? • 50% of new HIV infections occur during marriage • The odds of being HIV-infected are three to four times greater among unfaithful men and women than among those who have been faithful for life • The most effective and cost efficient way of preventing mother to child HIV transmission is through mutual fidelity so that women are not infected in the first place. Who is the Faithful House program for? • Community based HIV prevention organizations • Faith based marriage preparation and family life organizations • Health care teams providing HIV prevention programming The Faithful House can help: • 99% of participant couples report a change in behavior in a key area of their couple relationship • 80% report they know have the skills to be faithful • 94% report they are more free to discuss sexual issues • 42% respect each other more as partners A Personal Testimony: Before the Faithful House training, “We had no communication. We weren’t faithful. We couldn’t sit down and talk about money. We had no time for each other and we were at grave risk of becoming HIV infected. After the workshop, our hearts and lives changed. We have a whole new level of intimacy. Now we work together, we play together, we do everything together from A to Z. . . and we are faithful to each other.” Please join us: A wide coalition of stakeholders has come together to sponsor these two workshops. They have done so in recognition of the fundamental importance of reducing multiple concurrent partnerships as a proven means of reducing HIV prevalence. Interested participants are encouraged to first complete the program as a “participant couple.” After experiencing and living out the Faithful House program in their own lives, couples can then train others after completing a “facilitator couple” workshop. Couples from West Africa were encouraged to come to Liberia to attend one of the three participant couple workshops. After “living out” the Faithful House, couples who are interested in teaching others have been invited to Nairobi for “facilitator couple” training. We look forward to working with you in this program. Not only will it prevent HIV, it will help couples become better partners, better parents, better providers! |
