Training Course for Supervisors | ||
Africa Family Life Federation organised a training session in collaborration with Action Familiale Mauritius .The session take place in Mauritius 4 – 14 June 2007. It is the mission of the Federation to assit the development of structures of Family Life Life organisations in different countries of Africa. The aim is to help to educate in authentic love couples and youths ,so that they will live their love and gift of life within the plan of God.It is in that context that we promote natural family planning and education to family life values. For a Family Life Programme to be efficient and to offer good, quality services, couples must be given specific training and follow-up. The knowledge and the know-how of the educators have a direct influence on the couple training. This requires that organisations build up a structure of supervision and continuous ongoing training of educators. For NFP associations to be efficient a well-structured and professional set-up is essential. The training course in NFP supervision is designed to help develop NFP programmes at national, regional or local level. The course lasts 10 days including practical training on the field. The programme emphasises the means of attaining a good NFP user-teaching standard. Teaching and follow-up techniques, training and supervision of NFP teachers, form the core subjects of the programme of studies. The participants were very motivated to learn and to develop at their best their capacity to become excellent educators and supervisors. We have been filled with admiration in front of the quality and capacity of the group. They are all very dedicated to their mission and to the service of the church. The sharing experience of Sister Kelechi about the spiritual aspect of the NFP way of life integrated in the teaching has been very well appreciated. She has also presented the theology of the body to the group. The group has also appreciated the beautiful way of presenting sexual harmony by Fred and Sally Olweny. In simple words they introduce the christian vision of love in the couple life. The group was enriched by the field visit which demonstrates the practical aspect of the training . NAME OF PARTICIPANTS: 1.Sr Yullita Chirawa, Health desk coordinator of Zimbabwe Catholic Bishop Conference. 2.Didas Kapinda Coordinator of UFATA Dar es salaam 3.Sister Agugo Kelechi Coordinator of Family Life Ministry of Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria. 4.Thomas Mwangi,Family Life coordinator of Murang'a diocese,Kenya. 5.Fred and Sally Olweny Director of Education for life programme Kenya. 6.Cavin Otieno HIV/AID and Family Life coordinator KEC. 7.Dr Margaret Ogola Health Coordinator KEC. Sister Kelechi from Nigeria is now interested to organise a structure ,to form supervisors to support all the teachers already formed in different part of the country. The pastoral component is already well integrated in the training of her teachers and she contributed a lot in that field with the group. Didas Kapindas from Tanzania ,an excellent educator and trainer is also very interested to implement a structure for his service . We were also very much impressed by the group from Kenya,Dr Margaret Ogola, Cavin Otieno, Fred and Sally Olweny and Thomas Mwangi. They have all good capacity to develop a programme.Links have been developed between the group and Fred and Sally are very secure to know that they could count on the help and experience of Dr Ogola for their programme. We have also very much appreciated the way Fred integrates the teaching of the church in his programme for couples . Sister Yullita Chirawu from Zimbabwe is also very motivated though new in the field she will be helped to develop a programme. God is the center of the life of all the participants and to be at his service is a joy and a privilege to work for his kingdom. The family of AFLF is getting larger , and the group has been able to live as brothers and sisters in Christ. Important moment was time of praying together, and the mass celebrated by Mgr Piat in the Bishop Chapel for the group. We pray together and thank God and pray for Kirche in Not and the benefactors who support us in our work. The group had the privilege to meet the Cardinal, he was in good form and they were impressed by his vision and commitment to families. We are very grateful to the help and support of Kirche in Not , please receive our deep thanks. OVERVIEW The training course in NFP supervision is designed to help develop NFP programmes at national, regional or local level. The course lasts 10 days including practical training on the field. The programme emphasises the means of attaining a good NFP user-teaching standard. Teaching and follow-up techniques, training and supervision of NFP teachers, form the core subjects of the programme of studies. MODULE I: FERTILITY MANAGEMENT THROUGH NATURAL APPROACH This module aims at reinforcing knowledge in the physiology of the woman’s reproductive organs and at developing efficient teaching techniques. It covers the initial lesson, the different aspects of user follow-up, the management of different situations. At the end of this module the participants will be able to bring users to an effective and satisfactory use of NFP. MODULE 2: SUPERVISION OF NFP SERVICES The aim of this module is to promote the concept of supervision in NFP services and to develop supervision techniques for the participants. Supervision in NFP does not mean ‘providing control’ but providing a supportive framework for the teachers and on-going development of skills. At the end of this module, the participants will be able to ensure that the teachers bring the clients to an efficient and satisfactory use of NFP. More specifically the participants will be able to: • Identify flaws in charting • Analyse charts • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of teachers • Improve, where necessary, the knowledge, skills and attitudes of teachers • Offer support to the teachers (a participant who is not yet a supervisor and who, in fact, is his/her own supervisor will also benefit greatly from that module). MODULE 3: TRAINING OF NFP PERSONNEL At the end of this module, the participant will be able to plan, organise, implement and evaluate a training programme for NFP teachers through a systematic approach. More specifically the participant will be able to: Unit 1: Educational Objectives and Planning of Training Programmes - Determine general and specific educational objectives. - Identify professional tasks that the trainees are expected to accomplish. - Identify appropriate objectives relevant to the professional tasks. - Determine for each educational objective the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes that the trainees should acquire. - Select appropriate educational methods and techniques that will enable the trainees to achieve the educational objectives. - Determine the educational resources necessary to implement a training programme. Unit 2: Evaluation - Propose evaluation strategies and techniques that enable measuring the progress of trainees. - Propose an evaluation scheme of an entire training programme. MODULE 4: FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION This module aims at orienting the participants to the importance of family life education to NFP users. At the end of this module the participants will be able to discuss some special aspects of marital life concerning conjugal relationship such as dialogue, continence and sexual harmony. MODULE 5: STATISTICS This module aims at orienting the participants to the notion of statistics so as to enable them to collect, analyse and utilise rationally the data. At the end of the module, the participants will be able to: - Describe methods for the collection, compilation and analysis of statistical data in NFP programmes. - Interpret the statistical data of an NFP service. - Discuss the uses of indicators for monitoring progress in NFP services. MODULE 6: FIELD/PRACTICAL WORK In this module, the participants will go out with NFP teachers and supervisors doing their field work. This will provide them with a global idea of an NFP service. The field work will comprise of client teaching, teacher supervision, teacher meeting. The aim of this module is to put into concrete form the theoretical aspects of NFP teaching and supervision which will have been discussed in workshops. It will help the participants achieve the objectives of modules 1 and 2. This module will also enable the participants to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of close follow-up and of close supervision in NFP. (It is not possible for men to go out on our normal field visits to users. However, meeting with some users will be organised. They will also be able to beneficiate from the supervisor/teacher interactions). |
