"Approaching Menopause: The Ovulation Method."

| The two primary indicators of premenopausal infertility are the absence of cervical mucus and short luteal phases of less than ten days. Other symptoms of declining fertility during the premenopausal phase including bleeding irregularities, hot flashes, breast tenderness, physical changes including weight gain and alteration of body shape and emotional changes. Rest, diet and emotional support from the spouse as well as a good understanding of the declining fertility state are recommended as adequate therapy. The use of supplemental hormones is discouraged. Knowledge of the basic infertile pattern of either cervical mucus or dryness as well as the characteristics of the peak mucus are essential in understanding the fertility potential during premenopausal years. The basic rules of the ovulation method are explained and shown to be useful for long, preovulatory cycles and after cycles with peak mucus characteristics. |
